Merry Christmas Eve! Is everyone ready for Christmas? In case you are still trying to decide what to serve for breakfast tomorrow, I have the perfect recipe for you. Mini cinnamon muffins with cookie butter! Mini muffins are just so cute. They are the perfect food to have out around the holidays when people are around because they are so poppable! Is that a real word? I don’t think so, but it should be because it describes mini muffins perfectly – you just pop one in your mouth! Continue reading
Is there any kind of food that says Christmas more than a gingerbread cookie? There is just something about the flavor of gingerbread that makes me think about decorating the tree by a cozy fire while Christmas music is playing in the background. And they are so much fun to make because you can choose any shape that you want! I love to get out my cookie cutters each Christmas season and play with them – it makes me feel like a kid! Of course the standard gingerbread man is adorable, but there are so many fun options. This year I was inspired by these gorgeous ornaments from St. Frank.
St. Frank sells handmade textiles that are sourced from artisans around the world. This holiday season they are featuring a limited edition Birds of Peace ornament set that consists of four embroidered birds, each one with a unique and beautiful pattern. So I added a new cookie cutter to my collection and got to work.
Happy Sunday! It is bright and sunny here in NYC, a nice change from yesterday when it snowed literally the entire day. But I didn’t mind – it gave me an excuse to bake the day away. Not that I need an excuse to do that 🙂 Plus when you’re all warm and cozy inside, the snow is so pretty. It made the city look so calm and peaceful. It wasn’t quite as pretty and peaceful when I left to go out to dinner. The streets were not plowed, so let’s just say our cab did not have the easiest time driving! Ah the joys of city living. It is December 1 – let the Christmas recipes begin! I have a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit until Thanksgiving and my birthday have passed. But once they are over, I start to get so excited about Christmas. TheBetterHalf and I just got back from an amazing trip to Paris and Brussels (more to come about our trip in a future post) and both cities were all decked out for Christmas. It was gorgeous, and got me in such a festive mood!
So when I woke up at 5:00am this morning because of jetlag, naturally my thoughts immediately went to Christmas baking. And since it is a weekend morning, I focused on doughnuts, one of our favorite weekend breakfasts since I bought my doughnut pan. And so gingerbread doughnuts were born! Continue reading
Last week on ChezCateyLou, Cate gave you all the recipes you need to put together a successful Thanksgiving meal. That’s all well and good, but surely you’ll need something to help you survive the other seven hours of the day when you’re not stuffing your face. That’s where this delicious Thanksgiving Punch recipe comes in handy.
* This post also appears on The Nobler Experiment. The Nobler Experiment is an excellent blog that focuses on all things alcohol related. You should head over there right now to check out their Thanksgiving content, including more cocktail recipes and wine and beer recommendations for the big day. Continue reading
Today is the final day of our Thanksgiving Week! Are you full yet? I hope not, because it is time for dessert! Somehow no matter how much I eat on Thanksgiving, there is always room for dessert. And of course it is Thanksgiving, so dessert has got to be pie. Unless you are TheBetterHalf – he likes chocolate chip cookies for Thanksgiving dessert, which I think is just weird. But when he has Thanksgiving with my family in Thanksgiving, I humor him and make cookies and pie.
In our family, the pie of choice is apple pie – but not just any old apple pie – an apple crumb pie! And it tastes even better, because it is made by my dad. Now I think this recipe is technically my mom’s, but my dad has been making it every Thanksgiving since I can remember, so I think it is safe to call it Dad’s apple crumb pie. Continue reading
It is no secret that I’m putting pumpkin in everything these days. I talked about it earlier this week when I made pumpkin coffee cake. It is also no secret that I love to bake bread! Just look at all of these recipes. It is really one of my favorite things to do on a lazy Sunday. There is nothing better than the smell of freshly baked bread in your house. TheBetterHalf is pretty spoiled – I can’t remember the last time we had store bought bread! Continue reading
I’m back with another pumpkin recipe. I just can’t stay away! For some reason this time of year all I want to eat is pumpkin! Like these pumpkin doughnuts, or these pumpkin doughnuts, or these pumpkin muffins. I can’t believe I am about to say this, but I like it even more than chocolate right now. Pretty sure that will change in a month or so, but for now I’m embracing pumpkin everything! Continue reading
All the flavors of a gooey cinnamon bun with cream cheese icing baked into a doughnut! The perfect way to celebrate Doughnut Appreciation Day.
According to this handy little website, it is Doughnut Appreciation Day! I know there is a National Doughnut Day in June, but I fully support having two days a year when we can celebrate the mighty doughnut. If you follow my blog regularly, you probably think that I celebrate doughnuts on a weekly basis. I have been obsessed with making them ever since I bought this amazing doughnut pan! Continue reading
Happy Friday! To celebrate the weekend, how about some pancakes? But not just any ordinary pancakes (although there’s nothing wrong with plain ol’ buttermilk pancakes or whole wheat pancakes) – sweet potato pecan pancakes! I was thinking about making pumpkin pancakes, but I have been on pumpkin overload lately. So I figured why not try out the “other orange puree” – mashed sweet potato! Is that a thing people say, the other orange puree? Probably not, but they really should. Continue reading
