Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Muffins

Happy Sunday! It is bright and sunny here in NYC, a nice change from yesterday when it snowed literally the entire day. But I didn’t mind – it gave me an excuse to bake the day away. Not that I need an excuse to do that 🙂 Plus when you’re all warm and cozy inside, the snow is so pretty. It made the city look so calm and peaceful. It wasn’t quite as pretty and peaceful when I left to go out to dinner. The streets were not plowed, so let’s just say our cab did not have the easiest time driving! Ah the joys of city living. Dad’s Apple Crumb Pie

Apple Crumb Pie | chezcateylou.com

Today is the final day of our Thanksgiving Week! Are you full yet? I hope not, because it is time for dessert! Somehow no matter how much I eat on Thanksgiving, there is always room for dessert. And of course it is Thanksgiving, so dessert has got to be pie. Unless you are TheBetterHalf – he likes chocolate chip cookies for Thanksgiving dessert, which I think is just weird. But when he has Thanksgiving with my family in Thanksgiving, I humor him and make cookies and pie.

In our family, the pie of choice is apple pie – but not just any old apple pie – an apple crumb pie! And it tastes even better, because it is made by my dad. Now I think this recipe is technically my mom’s, but my dad has been making it every Thanksgiving since I can remember, so I think it is safe to call it Dad’s apple crumb pie. Continue reading

Sherry Charred Brussels Sprouts

Sherry Charred Brussels Sprouts | chezcateylou.com

It is Thanksgiving Week day 3!  So far we’ve had Haricots Verts and Stuffing (TheBetterHalf’s favorite) and now it is time for my favorite – Brussels Sprouts! I know, it is hard to believe that I choose brussels over pie, but it is true.  I just love brussels sprouts!  There is something about their flavor -when they get all browned and crispy that I just can’t resist.

We eat brussels sprouts all the time, especially in the winter.  I have no self control around them – I actually have to make only two (large) servings or else I just won’t stop eating them.  I usually roast them in a 400 degree oven tossed in some olive oil, salt, and pepper. But for our Thanksgiving Week, I decided to try a new recipe, one for the best brussels sprouts that I have ever eaten.

Pumpkin Yeast Bread

IMG_0593-2

It is no secret that I’m putting pumpkin in everything these days.  I talked about it earlier this week when I made pumpkin coffee cake.  It is also no secret that I love to bake bread!  Just look at all of these recipes. It is really one of my favorite things to do on a lazy Sunday. There is nothing better than the smell of freshly baked bread in your house.  TheBetterHalf is pretty spoiled – I can’t remember the last time we had store bought bread! Continue reading

Brown Butter Rice Krispies Treats

Brown Butter Rice Krispies Treats | chezcateylou.com

I really can’t remember the last time I had a rice krispie treat. They are such a childhood favorite, but now I just never think about making them, and I don’t really come across them very often in bakeries and coffee shops. I was flipping through the Flour cookbook the other night and saw a recipe for brown butter rice krispies treats. Um, yum! I knew I had to try them! Continue reading

Butternut Squash Potstickers with Sriracha Ginger Dipping Sauce

Butternut Squash Potstickers | ChezCateyLou.com

I am a huge fan of butternut squash. I get so excited when I see it popping up all over markets and on restaurant menus in the fall.  I like to buy the packages of precut cubes.  It just seems much safer to me…every time I take the giant chef’s knife to a whole butternut squash I come perilously close to losing a finger.

Usually we just roast our butternut squash – toss it in some olive oil, salt and pepper and roast for 20 mins at 400 degrees.  Simple and delicious.  But I decided to branch out with my latest butternut squash purchase and make potstickers.  Wow.  Amazing.  New favorite recipe!  This was my first time making potstickers and I have to say, I was pretty darn proud of myself. Look at these beauties! I was pretty much dancing around the apartment when they were finished.  Continue reading

Cinnamon Roll Doughnuts with Cream Cheese Icing

All the flavors of a gooey cinnamon bun with cream cheese icing baked into a doughnut!  The perfect way to celebrate Doughnut Appreciation Day.

Cinnamon Roll Donuts | ChezCateyLou.com

According to this handy little website, it is Doughnut Appreciation Day!  I know there is a National Doughnut Day in June, but I fully support having two days a year when we can celebrate the mighty doughnut.  If you follow my blog regularly, you probably think that I celebrate doughnuts on a weekly basis.  I have been obsessed with making them ever since I bought this amazing doughnut pan!   Continue reading

Creamy Tomato Orzo Soup made with Greek Yogurt

Creamy Tomato Orzo Soup | chezcateylou.com

Soup season is officially here again! I love to eat soup all year round, but I definitely take a break from making it in the warmer months. Who wants to stand over a hot stove for an hour when it is 80 degrees outside? But now that fall is here and the temperatures are dropping, it is time to get back on the soup making bandwagon!    Continue reading

Sweet Potato Cranberry Quick Bread {Mystery Dish}

Sweet Potato Cranberry Quick Bread | chezcateylou.com

Today I have a very special post for you – I am guest posting for a great blogging group called Mystery Dish.  Each month a group of mystery ingredients is selected, and then each blogger in the group creates a recipe using a certain number of the ingredients!  Sarah at The Pajama Chef introduced me to this group, and I am so excited to be their guest this month.  When she emailed me the ingredients, I kind of felt like I was on Chopped.  The possibilities of what to make were endless!!  Sweet, savory, breakfast, dessert…in the end, I went for sweet! No surprise there, I just can’t stop baking.  Continue reading

Double Chocolate Pistachio Doughnuts

Double Chocolate Pistachio Doughnut | chezcateylou.com

Breakfast or dessert?  A moist chocolate cake covered with rich chocolate icing and topped with chopped pistachios – the description might sound like dessert, but the shape says breakfast so I’m going with that!  Continue reading
