It is no secret that I’m putting pumpkin in everything these days. I talked about it earlier this week when I made pumpkin coffee cake. It is also no secret that I love to bake bread! Just look at all of these recipes. It is really one of my favorite things to do on a lazy Sunday. There is nothing better than the smell of freshly baked bread in your house. TheBetterHalf is pretty spoiled – I can’t remember the last time we had store bought bread! Continue reading
The title of this entry says it all for this one: Bacon.Bread. Delicious, fluffy bread with tons of bacon baked inside. Does it get any better? I really don’t think so. I’m pretty sure TheBetterHalf would be happy if this was the only bread I ever baked going forward. I mean what is not to love about three quarters of a pound of bacon being added to your bread dough? And imagine the sandwich possibilities with this loaf. A turkey sandwich…on bacon bread. A grilled cheese with tomato…on bacon bread. A BLT!….on bacon bread. What doesn’t sound better when you put it on bacon bread? I think even a PB&J would be phenomenal on this bread. I may or may not have tried that….TheBetterHalf was grossed out, but I thought it was amazing! The sweet and salty combo, mmmm. Continue reading
As you might have noticed, I love baking bread. Since I started baking it in January of 2012, I don’t think we’ve bought any bread – I won’t allow it! Homemade bread is just so much better! And we usually have a lot leftover from the loaves I bake, so I just slice it up and pop it in the freezer. You can put a frozen slice in your toaster and you have delicious toast ready in a few minutes! Continue reading
Hailing from the great city of Philadelphia, I consider myself somewhat of a cheesesteak aficionado. Pat’s, Geno’s, Jim’s, Tony Luke’s, John’s, Rick’s (creative names, I know) – I’ve had them all. But on those occasions when you can’t make it over to the corner of 9th and Passyunk for a wiz-wit, you can still make a delicious cheesesteak right on your stove top. Continue reading
I love making bread. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a beautiful loaf of freshly baked bread on your counter. And the smell in your house is just unreal. I am definitely a fan of quick recipes at times, like my english muffin bread, but when I have more time on the weekends I like to bake bread. It takes a lot of waiting time, but the end result is so worth it. TheBetterHalf is a huge fan of plain ol’ white bread, so I decided to bake him some last weekend. Just a classic white sandwich loaf. This recipe fit the bill perfectly! It is light and fluffy, but still hearty enough to withstand a giant sandwich. I garnished one with sesame seeds and kept one plain. If you have some extra time on your hands this weekend, I would definitely recommend making this gorgeous loaf of classic white bread. It would make a great mother’s day gift!
Happy mother’s day, Mom!
TheBetterHalf fancies himself as some sort of sandwich artist. He’s even called himself a sandwich architect. And I can’t argue with him – he makes a great sandwich! I need to find a good recipe for a hoagie roll (any suggestions welcome!), but in the meantime I decided to make him some rye bread for pastrami sandwiches! This recipe turned out so well. The bread has a delicious light rye flavor and I love the addition of caraway seeds. The texture is so soft, but still sturdy enough to stand up to a sandwich. Continue reading
